Getting a Dj For A Wedding

Planning to tie the knot? You will need to include a DJ in your wedding planner. Choosing a DJ for a wedding is not unlike choosing your caterer or floral provider. You should start searching for a disc jockey at least six months before the big day to ensure the DJ you want will be available. The first step is to check your local Yellow Pages for available disc jockeys and make a list. You might also want to cross check on the Internet because many of today's DJs do have websites where you can learn more about the services they offer.

It is important to choose a DJ who specializes in the type of music you want for your wedding. Most DJs will tell you they can do any kind of music which is usually true unless you have an obscure request. Some disc jockeys do specialize in certain music genres like pop, R&B or country just to name a few. Others offer a wide range of choices in all music genres. When searching for the right DJ you may even want to talk to other couples who have used DJ services. For example if you've been to a wedding and liked the DJ ask the bride and groom who they used. If you can't get recommendations from people you know some DJs can provide you with testimonials and references.

By this point you should be able to narrow down your list to a select group you are considering. From here you can call each one and schedule a consultation. Meeting your potential DJ in person is important because you want someone whose personality and appearance is appropriate for your wedding. When you meet the DJs in person you can find out more about the music they can provide and whether or not they can provide emcee services or not. Another factor is of course the price. Some disc jockeys charge more than others depending on the demand for their services and what they have to offer.

The last step in choosing a DJ for a wedding is to sign a contract. This contract should be signed by both you and the DJ you have chosen. It should state the duties required by the disc jockey, the agreed upon price, the logistics of everything and what will happen if the disc jockey cannot perform his services on your wedding day or what will happen if you need to cancel for some reason. You might also need to put down a deposit to retain DJ services for your preferred date, which is also something that should be explained in the formal contract.
